The Garden Calander

The Garden Calander

At Oaktree Garden Centre & Nursery

January:

The team at Oaktree will be busy potting the first bedding plants and pot/basket starter plants ready for the coming season. So if the weather is bad, take advantage of Oaktree’s vast undercover area and ask the team to help you plan your garden for the coming year.

February:

Preparations for Spring will be in full swing by February with a full range of roses, fruit trees, bushes and hardy shrubs on sale and ready for planting. Patio and basket starter plants will also be available now for bringing on in a heated greenhouse or conservatory.

This is a great time to look for more unusual perennials as Oaktree builds up its stock towards the peak March period.

March:

By now Oaktree will be bursting into life with early flowering trees and shrubs. A full range of rhododendrons and azaleas will be on show and selling fast. Starter plants will be available and later in the month, more and more bedding plants will be ready to come out of the nursery and go on sale.

March is also a good time to bring in hanging baskets for refilling with summer bedding - the Oaktree team will even give you a call when they are ready to go outside.

April:

By now there will be a huge range of bedding and pot/basket plants in stock. Most will be available right through May but it is worth checking in regularly to see what is on sale. There should also be a good choice of pot and pack vegetables ready to plant out.

May:

To meet the peak season demand for bedding, there will be new plants coming from the growing tunnels into the sales area every day.
At Oaktree, in addition to the bedding plants there is still room to stock a huge range of climbers, shrubs, perennials and fruit - heucheras are becoming particularly popular.

June:

In June Oaktree still has plenty of bedding plants to choose from and some will be more mature offering an instant show.

Some home grown perennials will be starting to flower - Foxgloves, Lupins, Delphiniums, Campanulas, Geraniums – with many giving colour through into Autumn. The Hostas will be in full leaf offering a great choice including many new and interesting varieties.

July:

Larger bedding plants will be on sale and ready to fill garden gaps instantly. The Oaktree
shrub and perennial production gets underway again providing fresh new vigorous plants every week. Large pots of hardy fuchsias will be in full flower and will last until the early Autumn frosts.

This is a good time to walk around Oaktree, see plants in full leaf and flower and get new ideas for the garden.

August:

The Oaktree team is on hand to offer advice on Autumn planting. Some trees will now be bearing fruit and other new or more mature varieties can also be made available to order ready for Autumn.

September:

The Autumn basket plants will now be available having been grown on site ready for winter – time to bring in your baskets for refilling.

At this time of year Oaktree also has an impressive range of fresh shrubs available – a good time to discuss new planting with the team.

October:

Oaktree specialises in Japanese Acers which will now be showing good autumn colour.
There will also be a good stock of home grown winter bedding available. New season roses and fruit trees will be in soon and can be ordered now.
Hedges are best planted in autumn Oaktree offers an extensive range of native and non native hedging at great prices – ask the team for advice or quotes for larger numbers.

November:

As this is the best time to plant roses, a full range of freshly potted plants will come down from the nursery and go on sale. There will still also be masses of colour from the nursery for beds, pots and baskets.

Plants destined to be Christmas presents can be held in the Oaktree nursery until you are ready to pick them up or take delivery.

December:

Time for hardy plants such as winter flowering heathers, viburnums and hamamellis.
There will also be Camellias in stock offering great value for money and making ideal Christmas presents.
Choose from thousands of top quality Christmas trees, many of which have been grown at Oaktree. Cut or potted, three feet or 20 feet – the choice yours and Oaktree can deliver to your door!
